This hilarious comedy tells the story of a married couple who are art
dealers. Their domestic tranquility is shattered upon the arrival of
the wife's goody-goody nerd of a sister, her uptight CPA husband and
her Archetypal Jewish Mother. They are there to try to save their
college student daughter from the horrors of living only for sex.
The comic sparks really begin to fly when the mother hits it off
with the elderly minimalist artist who is the art dealer's best client!

The Vampyre
by John Polidori; adapted for the stage by Tim Kelly
directed by Deanna Daugherty
October 17, 18, 19*, 24, 25, 26*, 30**, 31, November 1
Auditions
June 22 & 23
The Vampyre is a darkly menacing, suspense-filled thriller which reaches
back into the lives of Mary Shelley, her husband and poet, Percy Shelley,
and the notorious Lord Byron. While staying on the shores of Lake Geneva,
Byron suggested they and others sharing the villa each write a ghost story.
John Polidori, Byron's physician, designed the novella, The Vampyre, which
was published in 1819. The themes in Polidori's tale influenced Bram Stoker's
Dracula and eventually the whole vampire genre. This play is an adaptation of
that novella.
Lord Ruthven, a suave, seductive and deadly vampyre with a taste for gambling,
gains the confidence of Aubrey, a young man who is dazzled by Ruthven's
worldliness. Through Aubrey, Ruthven gains entrance to the English country-side
home of Aubrey's aunt, Lady Harwood. As he draws Aubrey ever more deeply into
debauchery and debt, others try to loosen his hold on the impressionable youth,
but to no avail. Before the evil Ruthven has sated his thirst and claimed a bride,
there is murder, terror and excitement. Will this family be able to save themselves
and each other before it is too late?

You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
by Clark Gesner
directed by Judy Pizzi
November 28, 29, 30*, December 5, 6, 7*, 12**, 13, 14
Auditions
September 7 & 9
A program note says that the time of the action is "an average day in the
life of Charlie Brown." It really is just that, a day made up of little
moments picked from all the days of Charlie Brown, from Valentine's Day
to the baseball season, from wild optimism to utter despair, all mixed in
with the lives of his friends (both human and non-human) and strung together
on the string of a single day, from bright uncertain morning to hopeful
starlit evening. This revised version of the classic musical is a fresh
approach to the 1967 original. Good ole Charlie Brown is joined by his
little sister, Sally, and his pals Linus, Lucy, Schroeder, and Snoopy.

Sheep on the Runway

Auditions
November 9th at 2PM & 10th at 7:30PM
Remember when Richard Nixon was in charge of the Free World, Communists
were clearly the enemy, and presidents could be trusted? The late Art
Buchwald, famous political satirist, certainly did, and his only Broadway
play brings you this howlingly funny story about the tiny little country
of Nonomura and their ambassador from America. When a political reporter
comes in to find a story and starts a political upheaval instead, the U.S.
has to step in to stop the presumed Communist threat, but can't quite figure
out how. In true farce style, things go from bad to worse, between the inept
Prince of the country and the corrupt commander of his army, the Ambassador's
rebellious wanna-be hippie daughter, and the political reporter egging everything on.
Come see democracy in action (sort of...).

A hilarious comedy about two English Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo,
who find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing "Scenes
from Shakespeare" on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of
Pennsylvania. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA is about to
die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they
resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash.
The trouble is, when they get to York, they find out that the relatives
aren't nephews, but nieces! Romantic entanglements abound, especially when
Leo falls head-over-petticoat in love with the old lady's vivacious niece,
Meg, who's engaged to the local minister. Meg knows that there's a wide
world out there, but it's not until she meets "Maxine" and "Stephanie" that
she finally gets a taste of it.

What Do You Need For An Audition?
First, bring yourself. Footlighters will ask you to fill out a short
form providing contact information, and a short resume of previous acting
experience (if any). If you already have a pre-printed resume, that is
useful, but not necessary. Footlighters welcomes beginners, so previous
experience is not required.
Footlighters Theater usually does "cold-reading" auditions, not
always from the script of the play being auditioned for. As such, you will
not generally need a prepared monologue unless explicitly called for in the
audition notice.
For a straight (non-musical) play, the cold-reading (either alone or
with other auditioners) is generally the entire audition. For musicals,
auditioners trying out for a dancing role will have to learn a
short dance number from the choreographer and perform that dance number
for the choreographer and director. Bring dance shoes appropriate to the role(s)
you are trying out for. Auditioners trying out for a singing role
will have to sing a song of your choice (preferably of a style similar to
the show's music) for the music director. Bring piano sheet music (preferred)
or a karaoke-style backup music CD without vocals.
We are an all-volunteer community theater, so note that all persons cast in a production
are expected to help in the technical aspects of building the show, such as set
construction, painting, set decorating, properties, lighting, etc. No previous
experience is required, and there are always things you can do.
